Albertas Wholistic Directory Interview

By Interviewer at 05/25/08 11:40

Name of your website?

Albertas Wholistic Directory

Your name?

Kim Buckler

Your Location (city, etc)

Cochrane

Please give us a short summary of your website?

A directory and website created by Cochrane & Area Wholistic Community to help practitioners advertise over a larger region. Networking through the website and monthly newsletters.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

Bring down my own advertising costs along with the advertising costs of other practitioners and suppliers.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

The website was lauched a year ago for Albertas Wholistic Directory.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

The name had to include all of Alberta, yet now I am pondering on changing the name. Time will tell.

What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?

Prices, exposure, information, personal contact with a human, and a good attitude.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

My goal is to have enough members to earn an income.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

Each moment that I personally work with the website I am learning how to do something that the next person will contract out. I am able to maintain the site at a lower amount as I do all the upkeep. The learning is a success in it self.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

If I had the unlimited budget, I would have funding to travel to get the shelf directory on the go. The funds would be used for the printed copy. And I would look into having a newsletter program for the monthly newsletters.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

If the site exceeded all expectations, I would hire someone to work with me.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

The only unexpected roadblock was figuring out how to have the page represent it self properly and not get cached. Also how to have The Firefox browser show both of my sites properly.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Staying commited and knowing that I am on the right track.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

The newsletter that I send out monthly.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

I did not know what to expect but was very determined and open to learning.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

The site has been up for just over a year, changed a few times and it will continue to go whether or not the directory is going. The networking information is very valuable and fun to do.

Replace this with a question of your own

Would yu recommend to anyone to create thier own web site and do the maintainace on thier own?

What is your website address?
