Music Theraphy

By Dr. Boolittle at 04/12/08 21:43

What do you do while taking a bath? Of course you soaped your body. What else? You scrub your back and foot, that is already an obvious given. Think. Think. Alright seems like you need to some help. Of course you sing! Don't you? You must be lonely taking a bath if you haven't tried singing while bathing even once.

So why do we sing? Some of you may say it's an instinct to sing while soaking ourselves in water. Actually it is. It is a habit that our mind was set to do, because our mind gets benefited from it. Yes, a big yes.

Research shows that singing, any type that you are having fun listening to, calms people's minds. It is something like an anti-stress mechanism. We feel relax when we sing our hearts out. We feel free when we sing what ever the words that are coming out of our mouths. Thus, singing, and music in general, is considered as a medical approach. It is a therapy that most people are using without actually noticing it.

Music Therapy is an established healthcare profession that uses music to address physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs of individuals of all ages. Music therapy improves the quality of life for persons who are well and meets the needs of children and adults with disabilities or illnesses. Music therapy interventions can be designed to:

  • promote wellness
  • manage stress
  • relaxes/clams mind
  • express feelings
  • enhance memory
  • improve communication
  • promote physical rehabilitation

Research in music therapy supports its effectiveness in a wide variety of healthcare and educational setting, and thus, helpful and applicable for everyone.
