I have not been a McDonald fan ever since, but for the past few weeks now, I have been eating their Quarter Pounder burger almost everyday. This is because I have been working with a friend that loves them. He literally eats at least 2 of it everyday and whenever he orders for an online delivery of it, he includes me. so I'm a bit forced to eat it as well even though I don't like it because it's pretty bland and the patty's very dry, almost resembling a rubber or a toy burger.
However, I was alarmed when I learned that eating foods from fast-food stores can make the symptoms of Alzheimer's Disease occur faster. Fast food for fast occurrence of Alazheimer's? Anyone?
This is based on a study made by a Swedish medical university, the Karolinska Institutet. Study specialist Susanne Akterin observed mice that were fed with food that are high in fat, cholesterol and sugar, elements that are present in every food you buy on stores like McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's, KFC and others.
In the study, the mice that were given foods from these store were observed to have been possessing the early stage symptoms of Alzheimer's. Even though the disease has not been found with a definite source why it occurs, scientist believed that it is caused by "a variant of a certain gene that governs the production of apolipoprotein E, one of the functions of which is to transport cholesterol”.
To make the observation short, the study suggests that not only food from fast-food stores can increase the rate of occurrence of Alzheimer's Disease but also food that are high in fat, cholesterol and sugar. These elements are always found in any fast food menus so therefore it is advised that you lessen your fast food consumption.
I think I will have to decline the Quarter Pounder offered by my friend from now on.
